Selecting Courses

One of the most time-consuming aspects of preparing for a study abroad experience is selecting courses. The first step is to meet with an advisor to determine the classes that need to be taken while studying abroad. Keep as much flexibility as possible, because other universities will not have the same selection of courses and because the various majors in the College of Business limit the classes that can be taken abroad.

You can get a good idea of what courses are offered at various universities by looking at the program's information sheet. Next to the name of the course, you will see how the course is likely to transfer back to UIUC. The exact course names and descriptions for the College of Business study abroad program courses can be found either online or in the white binders in the back of the student lounge in 215B DKH. For other programs NOT offered through the College of Business, course information can be found on the computers in the Study Abroad Resource Room in the International Studies Building.

Every College of Business student studying abroad must fill out a Course Approval Form before studying abroad. On this form, the students indicate the courses they would like to take and bring the completed form to 214 DKH. The student will then be notified how each course taken abroad will transfer back to UIUC. This process takes at least several weeks because the forms are sent to the various BUS departments where final decisions are made on the specific courses each student plans to take.
