Fall housing contracts deadline: July 1st
Spring housing contracts deadline: December 15th

UIUC has twenty-two undergraduate and two graduate residence halls that are affordable and conveniently located. Students who are at least 20 years old can choose to live in the graduate dorms, even if they are not graduate students. The Halls offer a naturally diverse social life, and provide live-in staff to assist students with any problems. Convenient computer labs, free cable TV, study areas and laundry facilities are located on-site while classrooms are generally 5 – 8 minute walk.

Because private landlords in Champaign-Urbana almost always require a year’s lease, students are strongly encouraged to arrange for UIUC housing. Semester leases are occasionally available for students wishing to arrange their own housing and who are willing to live off campus; however, this should be done BEFORE arriving since there are no guarantees of availability.

How do I obtain and submit a housing contract?

As soon as you are admitted to the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, you may sign a contract to live in the University Residence Halls. A $100 advance payment is required at the time of submission. DO NOT submit a contract if you are not sure you want to live in the Undergraduate Residence Halls. Canceling the contract after May 1 may result in a settlement charge up to $2,000. There is one way you can submit a contract:

  • Submit a contract online and pay the $100 advance payment by credit card.

What should I do before I submit my contract on-line?

  • Have your University ID number (UIN) and PASSWORD in front of you. Your UIN number is listed on your letter of Admission. YOu will not have a password, so you need to go to the following web site to set up one: http://www.icard.uillinois.edu. Click on "I need to set a password and pin for the first time." Highlighted in red are the instructions for those who do not have a social security number.
  • Get your roommate's name, birth date & University ID Number (if applicable).

Have your Mastercard or Visa credit card available to pay the $100 Advance Payment. (This is a secure transaction.)

The residence halls officially open the weekend before classes begin. Since all students are moving in at once, you may be much happier moving in a few days earlier and avoid the chaos. International students are offered temporary housing the week before classes begin for a modest additional fee:

  1. If your assigned room is ready, you can move in immediately and pay a fee of approximately $15 USD for every night before the official move in date.
  2. If you have not signed a housing contract, you can stay at the Illini Student Union (this is the University’s hotel and student center). Reservations are not required but is on a first-come, first-served basis. The fee is a special rate of approximately $20/night for the week before classes start or $64/night if before this. If there are no rooms available, the Union will suggest other options including Hotels in town.
